Marseille Airport (IATA: MRS) is the main international airport serving the city of Marseille, Provence.
This key airport for the entire region is also an important hub for Air France and Ryanair airlines. It is currently the fifth busiest airport in France in terms of passenger traffic.
Marseille Airport is located in Marignane, 27 km north-west of the city centre and normally takes less than 30 minutes to reach the city centre.
To quickly reach the centre of Marseille from the airport, the most convenient way is the L91 bus : as many as 99 connections a day are guaranteed.
The bus departs from platform 6, a short distance from both terminals. The average journey time is about 30 minutes and tickets can be purchased online, at the counter or directly from the driver, but only outside ticket office opening hours.
Departures from the airport start at 04.10 and then continue every 15 to 20 minutes. Last departure from the airport to the centre of Marseille at 01.30. Conversely, departures from Gare St.Charles, Marseille’s railway station, begin at 03.30 and the last run is at 00.50.
Marseille Airport does not have an internal train station. The nearest train station is Vitrolles-Marseille station and can be reached by the free LeBus+13 shuttle bus, which takes about 5 minutes. Once at Vitrolles station, you can take a train that will take about 23 minutes to reach the Saint Charles train station in Marseille.
Because of the time-consuming changes between connections, the train is a less recommended option than the shuttle bus.
A taxi transfer to the centre of Marseille takes about 30 minutes, traffic permitting. Obviously fares vary depending on the area and time of day, but consider at least 50 euros for a daytime ride and 60 euros for a nighttime ride.
If you plan to rent a car at Marseille airport, keep in mind that it should take about 25-30 minutes to reach the city centre under normal traffic conditions.
