Oppède-le-Vieux

Of all the perched villages or hamlets, this is certainly one of the most evocative.

Abandoned in the 17th century by its inhabitants who came down to the valley to cultivate their fields, today its ruined houses stand alongside beautifully restored ones, suggesting the unique atmosphere one breathes in Les Baux.

In short, few tourists and many workshops of artists who have chosen this village as their home.

Travel Tip

• A music week is held in the village church in August.
• From the car park, there is a beautiful circuit, le Sentier Vigneron d’Oppède , which takes about an hour and a half through vineyards, orchards and olive groves, an alternative way to immerse yourself in the Provençal atmosphere.
