Guadeloupe Airport

The Pointe-à-Pitre International Airport (IATA code: PTP), also known as Guadeloupe Pôle Caraïbes Airport, is Guadeloupe ‘s main air terminal and one of the most important hubs in the French Caribbean. Inaugurated in 1996, this modern airport serves as the main gateway for visitors to the Guadeloupe archipelago.

Strategically located in the municipality of Les Abymes, the airport is just 3 km from the centre of Pointe-à-Pitre, which can be reached in about 10 minutes by car.

Its central location makes it easy to reach all major destinations on the island: Le Gosier, a renowned tourist resort, is only 15 minutes away (7 km), while Saint-François, with its golf courses and beautiful beaches, can be reached in about 35 minutes (32 km). Deshaies, in the western part of Basse-Terre, takes about an hour (45 km).

With over 2.5 million passengers a year, the airport serves as a key hub for connections to metropolitan France, the Caribbean and North America, offering modern facilities and efficient services to travellers.

Getting around

Car hire

Car hire is the best solution for exploring the island comfortably and freely. The major car rental companies (Avis, Europcar, Hertz, Sixt) are present directly in the arrivals terminal. Due to the high demand, especially during the high season, advance booking is highly recommended.

Taxi

Taxis are the most immediate option to reach the centre of Pointe-à-Pitre and other destinations on the island. The service is available 24/7 at the dedicated area outside the arrivals terminal. Fares are regulated and vary according to destination and time of day. The trip to Pointe-à-Pitre costs approximately 20-25 euro during the day, while night fares incur a surcharge. It is always advisable to agree on the price before departure.

Buses

Public transport connects the airport to the centre of Pointe-à-Pitre via the Karu’lis bus network. The stop is located opposite the arrivals terminal. The service is cheap (about EUR 1.50 per ride) but only operates during daylight hours with a variable frequency. The journey time is about 20-30 minutes, depending on traffic conditions.

Hotel shuttle

Many hotels offer a private shuttle service by reservation. This service is particularly convenient for groups and families, providing a comfortable and direct transfer to your destination. It is necessary to book the service in advance, usually when booking your accommodation.
